From The Times London 16 November 1877

INQUESTS

...

At an adjourned inquest at Dover on Thursday evening upon the body of William Bottle [2115], residing at Faversham, who had been drowned in the Wellington Dock, a witness named Jane Nash gave evidence against Emma Gatehouse to the effect that the last-named woman told her that she and the deceased had a quarrel on the quay in Northamp-ton-street, and he fell into the dock. The witness, who said she lived with the accused girl, was pressed hard by the jury, and at last confessed that Gatehouse told her they quarrelled about some money, and she struggled with him and pushed him over. The jury returned a verdict of "Manslaughter against Emma Gatehouse."
